O C T O B E R | KKBE Sisterhood 2026–2027: An Exciting Year Ahead The KKBE Sisterhood is looking forward to an exciting and engaging 2026–2027 program year! We have planned a wonderful variety of programs and activities designed to educate, entertain, strengthen friendships, support our community, and celebrate our Jewish traditions. Harvey Loew, Author of Choices We Make - Program co-sponsored by KKBE Brotherhood Our year began with a special program featuring Harvey Loew, author of Choices We Make. Harvey brought a lifetime of experience in understanding human behavior, along with successful careers as a marriage and family therapist and an organizational consultant. His presentation was thought-provoking and engaging as he shared his insights and experiences. The program was free, and guests were invited. Following the presentation, we enjoyed delicious desserts together. November 15, 12:00 — Red Tent Fundraiser & Mah Jongg Join us for a fun-filled afternoon benefiting Red Tent. We will begin with a delicious bake sale, giving everyone an opportunity to purchase some homemade treats while supporting this important cause. Afterward, Mah Jongg players can gather in our Social Hall for an afternoon of games, friendship, and fun. Whether you're a longtime player or simply want to enjoy the camaraderie, this promises to be a wonderful Sisterhood event. December 20, 11:00–1:00 — Brunch & Creative Activity We are planning a creative and fun activity. Come for brunch and stay to enjoy an opportunity to create, relax, and socialize with friends. January 16, 7:00-9:00 — YES Event Start the new year with our YES event! From 7:00 to 9:00 PM, we'll enjoy an evening filled with entertainment and cocktails. This promises to be a lively and enjoyable evening, offering Sisterhood members and guests an opportunity to relax, have fun, and celebrate together. February 17 — Offsite Program March 6, 6:00–8:00 — Havdalah with Brotherhood We will join with KKBE Brotherhood for a meaningful Havdalah program, followed by entertainment after the service. This special evening will give us an opportunity to mark the close of Shabbat together and then enjoy an entertaining program in the company of our KKBE community. March 31, 6:00–8:00 — Sisterhood Seder Our annual Sisterhood Seder will provide a wonderful opportunity to gather together, celebrate Passover, and reflect on the traditions and stories that connect generations of Jewish women. We look forward to sharing this meaningful and memorable evening together. April 9, 7:00 — Sisterhood Shabbat Sisterhood Shabbat, a beautiful opportunity for us to come together in worship and celebrate the important role Sisterhood plays in our congregation and community. May 23, 1:00–3:00 – Last program We will conclude our program year with Rachel Barnett and Lyssa Harvey who wrote a follow up book to Kugels and Collards. As previous presenters to Sisterhood, we are excited to learn about their new book. This will be a wonderful time to celebrate Sisterhood’s accomplishments and to enjoy the presentation with our friends. Sisterhood would like to thank everyone who contributes to the funds that help improve KKBE and make it such a warm and inviting environment. S E P T E M B E R | The following was written by Lois Sugarman, Sisterhood Historian Hope and the High Holy Days When we still feel the blistering heat of summer, we find ourselves looking forward to the High Holy Days. However, as America struggles with hard times, we hear the expression “have faith,” repeated in news stories and whenever we are enjoying dinners, services, and get togethers with family. When difficult times happen, we find ourselves turning more to our beliefs. We explore the possibility of faith and forgiveness, and we need to believe in something bigger than ourselves. Sisterhood teaches us to be the light that is forever shining in our households. As the High Holy Days approach, we strive to draw closer to our faith, and we pray that Adonai will help us find the path that leads us to the fulfillment of our journey. Above all, we welcome the new year with hope for a brighter, better tomorrow. As Emily Dickinson wrote, “hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all. I’ve heard it in the chilliest land and on the strangest sea, yet never in extremity it asks a crumb of me.” In preparation for the most spiritual time of the year, I have been reading Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom. His discussions with different religious leaders have prompted deep reflection, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about belief, forgiveness, and hope.
